Our main objective is to increase STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers and assist in our students’ professional development. We also foster their technological competence from the earliest years and until they join the workforce.
And we do this based on Robotics and next generation programming languages used in the real job world, which we have been pioneers in introducing into our school curriculum.
Owing to the need to uphold a solid education starting in Middle School, our students’ technology learning starts in their very first year with us in Preschool.
TPR objective (Technology, Programming and Robotics) at this stage focuses on deepening logical reasoning, developing cooperative play, creative thinking, attention span and concentration, as well as curiosity, confidence, spatial and temporal orientation and language and communication skills.
All of this in a transdisciplinary way using tools such as Jack the Robot, constructions with Lego Duplo, Cubetto and the use of our iPads for programming with Scratch Junior.
Our project, from years 1 to 4 of Primary, is based on simple programming in Scratch and the execution of simple sentences and orders by event programming in the Zowi app to direct the robot with the same name.
Starting in year 4, construction games and Lego robots and Makey Makey smart cards give them more robust and in depth learning in robotics through game and play.
During Middle School, the programming foundations learned with Scratch in earlier years is now applied to other block programming, Bitbloq. In years 1 to 3 of Middle School, students do projects based on programming Arduino control boards to operate robots created through 3D object design.
In year 4 of Middle School structured languages are added to the knowledge created. Students learn object oriented programming and do development projects following the complete software construction cycle.
Finally, in years 1 and 2 of Baccalaureate, Information and Communication Technologies will convert our students into expert web application developers. The language used now is PHP and the main database manager is MySQL.
They program in professional development environments and learn to configure typical requirements, such as Apache servers, PHP, FTP clients and web language editors.
