Machines vs. Humans

The unit of inquiry, titled “How Does the World Work? I Experiment and I Create”, allowed our 4th graders to respond to the following question:  How have machines improved our daily life? 
They reached their answer by exploring, investigating, and experimenting through a range of diverse activities. One example was making a lemon dessert the old-fashioned way by hand versus modern techniques with the help of different machines.
Another activity, included within the unit of inquiry, was a trip last week to Alpegraf, where they witnessed first-hand our News printing process.
