Each school year is full of learning, experiences and unforgettable moments. One of the most eagerly awaited by students in Baccalaureate and the Diploma Programme (IB) at Casvi Villaviciosa and Casvi Boadilla is undoubtedly the end-of-year cultural trip. This year, the chosen destination was Italy, under the slogan “The charm of La Bella Vita”. A country that is the cradle of Western civilisation, full of art, history and landscapes, which has allowed our students to enjoy an enriching experience both academically and personally.
A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HEART OF THE RENAISSANCE AND ANTIQUITY
For eight days, from 20 to 27 February, our students had the opportunity to visit some of the most iconic cities in northern and central Italy. The adventure began in Milan, where they visited the majestic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Duomo, before continuing on to romantic Verona, famous for its Arena and old town.
Venice was another of the most magical stops on the trip. The students sailed through its canals in private boats and enjoyed a traditional gondola ride after visiting St. Mark’s Square and seeing the skill of the artisans at a glass factory.
The route continued towards the cradle of the Renaissance: Florence. There they were able to admire the treasures of the Gallery of the Academy and the Basilica of Santa Croce. No less impressive was the visit to Pisa, where they followed the tradition of photographing the Leaning Tower and climbed to the Campanile to enjoy the views. Before arriving in the capital, the group explored the medieval towers of San Gimignano and the spectacular Cathedral of Siena.
The trip culminated in Rome, the Eternal City. The students visited the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, immersing themselves in the history of the Empire. They also enjoyed the essence of the city at the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and the picturesque Trastevere neighbourhood. The final touch was provided by the Catacombs of Callixtus and St. Paul’s Basilica Outside the Walls before flying back to Madrid.
BENEFITS OF CULTURAL TRAVEL AS PART OF LEARNING
A cultural trip to Italy such as this is a fundamental tool in the educational process. This is because it complements the knowledge acquired in the classroom with real-life experiences. In this case, the expedition has enabled our students to:
- Expand your knowledge of history and art. Contemplating live works by Miguel Ángel or the architecture of the Roman Empire helps to consolidate the learning of Baccalaureate and the Diploma Programme.
- Promoting autonomy and coexistence. By managing their time in unfamiliar cities and living alongside their peers, students strengthen their personal development and responsibility.
- Improve your linguistic and cultural skills. Direct contact with Italian culture promotes adaptation to international environments and open-mindedness, values that are central to the International Baccalaureate.
- Create unforgettable memories. Travelling with your teachers and friends leaves an indelible mark that reinforces the sense of community at Casvi Villaviciosa.
At Casvi Villaviciosa, we are committed to a comprehensive education that combines theoretical learning with experiential learning. This cultural trip to Italy has undoubtedly been a unique opportunity for our Baccalaureate and PD students. They have all returned with a wealth of new knowledge and strengthened friendships.
