PyP Exhibition in Casvi: Celebrating the talent and research of 6th grade Primary School students

Exposició PEP del Bachillerato Internacional de los alumnos de 6º E. Primaria de Casvi Villaviciosa.

The PYP Exhibition is an annual event that marks the end of the Primary Education stage for students in Primary 6 at Eurocolegio Casvi International Private School. This project, an integral part of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and conceptual understanding. We will now take a closer look at the key aspects of this exciting exhibition.

WHAT IS THE PYP EXHIBITION?

The PYP Exhibition is a collaborative research project in which students apply and synthesise what they have learned during their time in the PYP Programme. Here are the key aspects:

  • Team Research: Students are grouped into teams and select a relevant topic. They can choose from scientific issues to social or cultural topics. This time the choice fell on the theme of the unit of enquiry they were working on related to history. After that, each team works on its project, researching, collecting data and analysing information.
  • Skills Development: During the process, students develop essential skills such as effective communication, time management and conflict resolution. They also learn how to search for truthful information on the internet and assess its validity.
  • Regular counselling sessions: Students meet regularly with their tutors for guidance and support. These sessions help them to stay on track and overcome obstacles.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE PEP EXHIBITION

The Primary 6 teams are hard at work on their projects. Here are more details:

  • In-depth research: Students delve deeper into their topic, consulting academic sources, interviewing experts and conducting experiments if necessary. They learn to cite their sources correctly and to present information clearly and coherently.
  • Setting up stands: At the exhibition, each team sets up a stand where they present their research. They use posters, models, videos and other visual aids to communicate their findings.

  • Demonstration in front of parents and school community: Pupils explain their projects to parents, classmates and teachers.
  • The exhibition therefore becomes an opportunity to practice presentation and speaking skills.

THE PYP EXHIBITION AND THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE METHODOLOGY

The PYP Exhibition and the International Baccalaureate (IB) methodology are closely related. In this way they complement each other:

FUNDAMENTAL COMPONENT OF THE IB

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a key component of the IB and is designed for children aged 3 to 12. Its aim is to develop active, autonomous and internationally minded learners. The PYP Exhibition is an integral part of this programme.

TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Both the PYP and the IB take a transdisciplinary approach. This means that themes and projects are not limited to a single subject, but are cross-cutting and integrated. The PYP Exhibition reflects this philosophy by allowing students to investigate relevant topics from multiple perspectives.

RESEARCH AND REFLECTION SKILLS

The PYP encourages curiosity and research skills in students. During the exhibition, students apply these skills by elaborating on their topics, collecting data and presenting their findings. They also reflect critically on their learning.

IB PROFILE ATTRIBUTES

The PYP Exhibition allows students to demonstrate how they have developed the attributes of the IB profile, including being inquirers, reflective, communicators, balanced and responsible. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to show these attributes in action.

In short, the PYP exhibition is more than a school event; it is a milestone in the education of Primary 6 pupils. We congratulate this promotion for their dedication and creativity. May you continue to succeed in your academic journey!
