The talent nurtured in the classrooms of the Casvi Villaviciosa International School continues to make its mark on the international stage. One example of this is Sara Barragán Montes, a former pupil of the school and currently Technical Lead for the Border Health and Points of Entry section of the Health Emergencies Programme at the World Health Organization (WHO).

In recent days, Sara Barragán has attracted significant media attention after taking part, alongside the Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in high-level meetings, for example, with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, to coordinate the international response to the health crisis caused by the hantavirus outbreak detected on the MV Hondius.

A KEY FIGURE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATION OF HEALTH EMERGENCIES

In her role at the WHO, Sara Barragán works on the management and coordination of international protocols relating to public health emergencies. In particular, those linked to international transport, borders and points of entry between countries.

Indeed, his expertise has been crucial to the response to the hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius, a situation that mobilised international organisations, governments and European health authorities.

The involvement of professionals such as Sara Barragán in this type of initiatives highlights the importance of having highly qualified experts who are capable lead health responses in complex international contexts.
