It is located in the Assembly Hall of our school and can be visited during school hours. In this exhibition, the students of the Visual Arts course of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme wanted to show all their artistic works made during the last two years: paintings, sculptures, photographs…

An exhibition in which you can also see how Casvi Villaviciosa encourages creativity and the development of its pupils’ talent. And how this development also helps professional orientation and the awakening of different artistic vocations.

WHAT ARE THE VISUAL ARTS IN THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (IB)?

According to the International Baccalaureate Organisation, “The Visual Arts are an integral part of everyday life and are present at all levels of human expression, communication and understanding”. They also cover, “from traditional forms embedded in both local and wider communities, societies and cultures, to the varied and divergent practices related to new, emerging and contemporary forms of visual language”.

It should also be added that this is a subject that is taught at all stages of the International Baccalaureate. At Eurocolegio Casvi International Private School we have, in fact, the C ontinuos IB Programmes. -PEP (en E. Infantil y Primaria), PAI y PD-. According to the IBO, “The theory and practice of the Visual Arts are dynamic, changing and relate diverse areas of knowledge and human experience through individual and collective exploration, creative production and critical interpretation”.

But if we look specifically at the Diploma Programme, Visual Arts encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. It encourages them to reflect. At the same time, they develop analytical skills, such as divergent thinking and problem-solving abilities.

They also work towards technical mastery and confidence as creative artists. In addition, students are expected to experiment with a wide variety of artistic practices and media in such a way that they reflect on them critically.

In short, the aim of this course is to open the way both to students who wish to pursue higher studies in the Visual Arts and to those who seek to enrich themselves through the Visual Arts throughout their lives. This is the case of Mencía, a former student of our school.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It has the respect of prestigious universities around the world. And it is prepared for the future by developing a sense of enquiry in students, fostering a desire to learn, preparing them to excel in their career paths and lead meaningful lives.

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) precede the DP. The three programmes share a common philosophy in that they all focus on the development of the attributes of the IB learning community profile, and their pedagogical approach is characterised by coherence. Consequently, students who have completed the PYP and the MYP will be well prepared to face the challenges of the DP, as is the case at Eurocolegio Casvi International Private School.

FUNDAMENTAL POINTS THAT CHARACTERISE IT AND BENEFIT THE VISUAL ARTS

  1. Breadth and depth of knowledge: The DP enables students to develop an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge. In addition, they study at least two languages and excel in traditional academic subjects.
  2. Integral Development: The DP focuses not only on academics, but also on the physical, intellectual, emotional and ethical development of the students. In turn, it fosters essential communication and collaboration skills.
  3. Exploration of Knowledge: The Theory of Knowledge course is unique to the DP. Here, students explore the nature of knowledge and develop critical skills.
  4. Advantages of PD: International research shows that PD offers significant benefits:
    1. Higher enrolment, retention and graduation rates in higher education.
    2. Better results in higher education institutions compared to other curricula.
    3. 21st century skills development.
  1. Global Life Skills: The DP prepares students for life in a globalised society. They also learn to think critically and apply knowledge in different contexts and disciplines.
