MULTILINGUAL SCHOOL: LANGUAGES
As a multilingual school, we know that multilingualism is a necessity in the global world in which we develop. Also vital in Casvi Villaviciosa's IB Methodology. According to linguist François Grosjean, "multilingual people are those who use two or more languages in their daily lives". A real privilege in the global world in which we live. Precisely for this reason, our main tool as a multilingual school is the teaching of three foreign languages: English, German and Chinese.
Being multilingual has become a necessity. Today’s children are growing up in a world in which seeing, living and moving through it will increasingly be their reality. Aware of this, as a multilingual school, at Casvi International School Villaviciosa, we attach great importance to the teaching of several languages, always as curricular subjects.
ENGLISH, FROM THE FIRST YEAR AND GERMAN AND CHINESE, FROM 5TH GRADE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL.
At International School Eurocolegio Casvi, as a multilingual school, the learning of these three foreign languages is promoted within the school timetable and as a curricular subject. It is carried out through practical classes, with a predominance of oral and written comprehension and expression, emphasizing the spontaneity of the foreign language. All worked in small groups, with native and bilingual teachers. In Secondary and Baccalaureate, they are shaped according to level and using the most innovative learning methods.
ENGLISH AS THE VEHICULAR LANGUAGE
Casvi Villaviciosa is an authorized center by COGNIA-AdvancED, an institution that accredits schools inside and outside the United States. Our commitment to internationality and multilingualism makes us a bilingual school where students can graduate with the highest level in English.
LANGUAGES FOR NEW STUDENTS
Admitted students are fully integrated into the foreign language classes with the rest of their classmates. In the case of English, are placed in different groups according to their level of linguistic competence.
In the case of German and Chinese, if they have not previously studied these languages, the respective teachers establish a differentiated attention program to facilitate the integration of these students.
As a multilingual school, those foreign students admitted without a solid knowledge of the Spanish language receive support classes in Spanish during the school day, taught by their Spanish/English teachers.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOTHER TONGUE OF PUPILS WHO ARE NOT PROFICIENT IN THE LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
As a multilingual school, we have specialized teaching staff, with sufficient pedagogical knowledge to ensure that all students are able to read and write correctly. Also that they are able to cope with the academic demands of the International Baccalaureate Programmes. The school will also hire staff to promote the students’ mother language if it is different from Spanish (mainly of Chinese or American nationality).
